Cerro Verde National Park


Since the reopening of the Cerro Verde Park on 15 December 2002 and offers all tourists many innovative changes that with hard work to date has been satisfactory. The Salvadoran Institute of Tourism has worked with the "Tour Guide" to provide foreign and domestic tourists from the United Natural interpretation in the form of educational and different. The project "Tour Guide" was created to engage people in the communities surrounding the Cerro Verde, with the aim of giving young people an opportunity to learn and spend time on something other than "Farm Labor."

The name in Nahuatl Cerro Verde is Cuntetepeque.

Main Attractions: trails, lookouts, flora and fauna, orchid.

Price: $ 1.00 per person, $ 2.86 Foreign, $ 0.70 for parking, $ 0.25 health services.

Location: Located at an altitude of 2030 meters above sea level, in the western region comprising the departments of Santa Ana and Sonsonate.

Getting there: Those who travel with their own vehicle can do in San Salvador, road to Santa Ana, to get to "The Congo" in Sonsonate in the diversion of "Black Gates." On the bus terminal in West Route 201 that goes to Santa Ana, then Route 248 to the Cerro Verde Park.

Additional information: Regulations of Entry into the park. ISTU policy has created in order to conserve natural resources within its habitat through control of entry of persons. The current limit is 300 people per day. For the safety of tourists visiting the trails and hikes to the volcano must be made in the company of guides and police from the tourism division.

It is a requirement to enter a written authorization. The permit application is easy, just write a letter detailing the day you want to visit the park and the number of people who go with you, adding the name of the group leader.
